Tesla has become the industry standard for what an electric vehicle should be. They're packed full of technology, capable enough to supply a genuinely useful range, spacious enough for the whole family, and surprisingly quick, too. While each Tesla offers something different, it's the Model Y that has really taken the world by storm, becoming the best-selling car in the world. This article will cover the capable crossover by highlighting the various numbers that make the car what it is, be they relating to the impressive Tesla Model Y's 0 – 60 time, or more practical metrics, like the luggage capacity and pricing information.

3.5: Electrifying Acceleration
While the main function of this spacious family-orientated crossover is to tackle daily commuting tasks, all iterations of the Tesla sport properly impressive acceleration times. Take, for example, the Tesla Model Y Performance's 0 – 60 time. Tesla states that 3.5 seconds is possible, which Car And Driver got very close to achieving, managing a 3.6-second attempt when road testing the model.
The Tesla Model Y Performance's 0 – 60 time is the quickest of all trims, but the others aren't too far behind. The Model Y Long Range 0 – 60 time is 1.3 seconds behind, at 4.8 seconds. Finally, even the base rear-wheel-drive variant isn't bad with its time of 6.5 seconds.

320: No Need For Range Anxiety Here
One of the main reasons some drivers are having concerns over swapping their trusted old gas car for a shiny new electric vehicle is range anxiety. Although, with cars like the 2024 Tesla Model Y, range anxiety is not really something they should be worried about any longer.
Opting for the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive trim, which just so happens to be the cheapest trim available, too, provides owners with a reassuring 320 miles of range. For most users, a range of 320 miles is more than enough to complete a day's worth of driving and still have plenty of range left at the end of the day. Fortunately, for those traveling longer distances, the charging times at Tesla Supercharger locations are much less than you might first think.

Seven: Space For The Whole Family
While the Model Y's 0 to 60 times are impressive, the main focus of the Tesla is not to light the tires up at every set of traffic lights. No, first and foremost, it needs to function as a comfortable and capable family-orientated crossover. Keen to deliver on the brief, Tesla offers a third-row option for the Model Y, which provides room for seven occupants. If luggage capacity is more of a priority, the Model Y can just as easily be specified with just five seats.
While the optional third-row is not suitable for most adults, it does, however, provide space for young children. The space can also be used for storage, too, when not in use.

4.1: Extra Cargo Capacity Up Front
Electric cars like the Tesla Model Y pack some inherent benefits over their gas-powered alternatives, and one of those benefits is that engineers don't need to make space for an engine under the hood. Naturally, this leads to space-saving opportunities, and many EVs have a 'frunk' up front, such as in the Model Y.
This frunk provides an extra 4.1 cubic-feet of luggage space, which is ideal for weekend bags, shopping bags, or even safety supplies for when on the road. The great thing is, it doesn't encroach on the normal luggage capacity at the rear of the car, of course, and storage is always at a premium, especially in family cars.

200: Charged Full Of Convenience
One aspect of owning an electric car that puts many people off is the thought of stopping for hours when the range is low if you need to recharge. By comparison, topping the tank up in a gas-powered car and paying takes mere minutes.
Tesla has an answer for this, however. Their Supercharger locations can provide an impressive 200 miles of range within just 15 minutes of charging. In other words, in the time it takes to check your emails, or grab yourself a bite to eat, you'll have gained enough range to drive for a few more hours. It's this convenience that makes the Tesla Model Y an especially attractive option in 2024, for those switching from a gas-powered car.
44,990: More Affordable Than You Think
The matter of money is always a big deal when considering a new car. Fortunately, the 2024 Tesla Model Y is quite affordable. Tesla advertises the Model Y at $31,490 after estimated savings. The savings in question total up to $13,500. These savings are a combination of $7,500, in the form of the federal tax credit available for EV purchases, and $6,000 worth of gas savings.
Let's place these savings aside for now, as the gas savings will vary depending on the usage of the car and where you live. The total cash price of the Model Y is still remarkably reasonable, for what seems to be an incredibly capable all-rounder of a crossover SUV.
The cheapest way to obtain a Model Y in 2024 is by purchasing the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive trim, at a cost of $44,990 – leasing and financing options are also available through Tesla. This trim has the longest range, too, at 320 miles. If you prefer all-wheel drive, the Long Range variant with power being sent to all four wheels is just $3,000 extra. For speed-addicted customers, Tesla offers the powerful Performance trim, at $51,490.
While not cheap, it's difficult to argue that the Model Y is expensive, especially considering all the tech that's packed into each model. Tesla is also keen to keep its cars looking competitive in the marketplace, which is why the Model Y is cheaper than most of its rival EVs.
2024 Tesla Model Y Pricing Comparison | ||
---|---|---|
Trim | Price | Price after estimated savings |
Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive | $44,990 | $31,490 |
Long Range All-Wheel Drive | $47,990 | $34,490 |
Performance All-Wheel Drive | $51,490 | $37,990 |

455: The Power To Impress
If it is the Performance trim that appeals most, then the chances are you will be eager to discover just how much power would be at your disposal behind the wheel. The dual-motor model kicks out an astounding 455 horsepower, which is enough to propel the Model Y from 0 – 60 in just 3.5 seconds, and on to a top speed of 155 mph. It's also capable of a mind-blowing quarter-mile time of just 11.8 seconds. That's quick enough to compete with some seriously potent sports cars, and yet they lack the practical capabilities of the Model Y, and likely cost a fortune more.
In addition to a rampant stable brimming with horses, the Model Y Performance also comes equipped with 21-inch Überturbine alloy wheels, red performance brakes, a carbon fiber spoiler, and aluminum pedals too.
15: Tech To Engage Throughout The Cabin
One of the great appeals of the Tesla Model Y is that the tech onboard is second to none. The minimalist approach within the cabin may take some getting used to, with a noticeable lack of buttons and switches.
However, the Model Y is not shy of gadgets and gizmos, they are just all accessible via a dominating 15-inch infotainment screen, as opposed to via buttons and switches. The infotainment system not only provides drivers with useful tools such as GPS navigation and traffic information, but occupants can also access games from there, in addition to watching their favorite films and shows on Netflix. Ideal, then, for occupying those brief moments in the day at charging locations when the range is running low.
