With this report, we look back at the August 2023 proof run again and present you a selection of current Holstein and Red Holstein bulls with alternative bloodlines. Besides well-known, frequent sire line-ups, the large portfolio of GGI-SPERMEX offers numerous progeny tested, genomic and also polled top-class sires having less frequent pedigrees, but outcross potential.
Holstein bulls with rare pedigrees
All-rounder: A very complete top sire with alternative bloodline is COMEBACK (Commitment x Entity x Spectre). His dam Winstar Entity 6062 descends from Endroad Profit EX 90. Her sire Entity is a grandson of Octoberfest. A half sister of COMEBACK was sold for 35,700 € at a top genetics auction in 2022. Comeback stands for best health, top calving traits, robotic milking suitability and high components.
More very complete all-rounders with less frequent pedigrees are for example HALFDAN, HEESTER, STERLING, NEAL and MADTIME. HALFDAN (Hadi x Bali x Topshot) not only offers an outcross pedigree, but he is also the currently highest sire for feet and legs in Germany! The perfect feet and legs result in high longevity. HEESTER (Huracan x Garido x Silver) also transmits high longevity and a very complete conformation profile. In addition, he convinces with very good health, fertility and medium stature. STERLING (Sunrise x Prosperous x Superhero) is one of two Sunrise sons and offers top figures for milk, conformation and health. Special advantages are high components with almost 1,000 kg milk and very high Mortellaro resistance.
NEAL and the newcomer MADTIME are maternal half brothers and descend from Peak Maudie (Pursuit x Medley) out of the world-famous Seagull-Bay Oman Mirror family. NEAL (Nexus x Pursuit x Medley) breeds very healthy, profitable dairy cows with high fertility and also offers great figures for longevity, udder health and calving ease. MADTIME (Mahomes x Pursuit x Medley) is an early Mahomes son that is very interesting especially because of low stature transmission, high milk production, fertility and great feet & legs.
Conformation specialists: PRECISION, KANT RDC and GHANA are three super conformation sires with alternative bloodlines. PRECISION (Proximo x Swift x Gymnast) belongs to the Top-5 by RZG and is the highest conformation sire in the Top-100 and, in addition, one of the best udder sires. He is the highest of six Proximo sons in the top list and descends from the Gold-N-Oaks Shottle Marbella VG 89 family. KANT RDC (Kodiak x Solito Red x Gymnast) is the conformation star and a red carrier, too! He combines perfect conformation with great values for health, fertility and robotic milking suitability. The highest conformation sire among all newcomers from August is the only Golf son GHANA (Golf x Copyright x Semino) with RZE 138 and very good robotic milk suitability (RZRobot 132).
FARRELL and FONTANE are two FOREMAN sons bred in Germany that descend from rare cow families. FARRELL (Foreman x Skyline x Montross) comes from the breeding farm Rainer Thoenes in the Rhenish Kalkar. Sensational 14 generations of conformation and production power cows of the Astronaut Gail EX 92 family can be seen in his pedigree. He is the highest Foreman son for conformation and combines it with very good health. FONTANE (Foreman x Summerlake x Nordic) is the highest Foreman son for health and especially transmits very good udder health and high Mortellaro resistance onto his progeny. He was bred by the Griepentrog KG in Steinhagen (GER), a highly efficient dairy cow farm with 1,600 cows. His pedigree combines a so far rare cow family strong for production with a really alternative sire line-up.
ROCKETMAN and RAGTIME are two very young Rocksongs sons. ROCKETMAN (Rocksongs x VH Crown x VanHalen) is the second highest newcomer by RZE and transmits adequate milk yield with very high components. RAGTIME (Rocksongs x Topmodel x Sonic) combines almost 2,000 kg milk with very good health, medium frame and top udders.
Outcross for polled breeding: An interesting bloodline for polled breeding is offered by the newcomer COGNAC P (Carenzo x Builder P x Yoyo). COGNAC P descends from the family of Larcrest Cosmopolitan. His polled gene comes from his dam co*cktail P, a BUILDER P daughter. He offers faultless conformation and transmits firmly and highly attached udders as well as outstanding hoof and udder health. The hom*ozygous polled BALTIC PP (Brandung P x Builder P x Yoyo) is a maternal half brother of COGNAC P. BALTIC PP transmits A2A2 and positive components. He is an ideal bull for strength and rump slope. Another hom*ozygous polled Brandung P son is BRANDY PP (Brandung P x Builder P x Malinus). BRANDY PP descends from a cow family with high lifetime productions and transmits lots of milk, good health and medium stature with very good feet and legs himself.
Two more hom*ozygous polled top bulls are CAN PP RDC and CARLO PP RDC that offer an alternative bloodline for Red Holstein polled breeding because they are red carriers. CAN PP RDC (Cartoon P x Simon P x Cameron) is a perfect complete package and breeds polled, long-lasting and healthy free stall barn cows. His half brother CARLO PP RDC (Cartoon P x Simon P x Sniper) should also breed long-lasting free stall barn cows and transmit good calving ease and very good udder health.
Red Holstein bulls with rare pedigrees
The probably most known Red & White top-class sire with outcross potential is MASK RED (Stamkos x Wisent x Sunfish RF). MASK RED descends from the successful Massia family and transmits A2A2, high components, very good robotic milking suitability and good calving ease. The newcomer FLYER (Flight Red x Best Benz x Pace Red) also offers a remarkable pedigree without Solitair P, Salvatore RDC, Styx-Red and Gywer RDC. His sire Flight Red has been a very sought-after outcross bull for Red Holstein breeding in the past few years. FLYER is the No.3 by RZ€ and unifies high production with functionality. An alternative bloodline is also offered by the newcomer HAWKEYE (Hawk P RDC x VH Crown x Eloped Red). He is the first HAWK P RDC son and convinces with extremely good udder health, top udders and lots of milk with positive components.
Outcross for polled breeding: The top-class sire MO RED PP offers 100 % polled calves and a fantastically alternative bloodline. MO RED PP (McDonald x Match P x Salvatore) is out of the Canadian Splendor empire. Ahead of his dam, the pedigree includes a full sister of ATop-Red (Salvatore x Delta 1427) from the EX 90 Planet Silk family. He himself combines conformation, health, suitability for automatic milking systems and heifers on a very high level and can be widely used.
Progeny tested: EL TORO – intensively used as a genomic young bull and impressively confirmed with daughters! EL TORO (Eloped Red x Racer x Mogul) descends from the Roxy family and his pedigree includes more than ten generations of cows classified VG and EX. Moreover, he has outcross potential and has several influential Black & White bulls like Racer or Mogul among his ancestors. EL TORO is an extremely strong production sire combined with functional conformation with medium frame and more rear leg angle. His special strength is also high Mortellaro resistance.
Progeny tested and hom*ozygous polled is also RAMBO PP whose pedigree does not include Solitair P blood. RAMBO PP (Rumba PP x Power Play x Stellando) offers a faultless linear profile, milk with high components, good calving ease and fit calves. He belongs to the most frequently used sires internationally of the past few years and still can be recommended for widespread use today.
Last but not least, this collection has to include our internationally well-known conformation specialist POWER. POWER unifies outcross, milk production, longevity and show successes at the highest level. He was bred at Swissbec Genetics and his pedigree offers a unique bloodline for Red Holsteins with Durango RDC x Mogul x Demello RDC x Mr.Burns RDC x Goldwyn x Intensifier RDC x Rudolph.
