One of the ways players can buff themselves in-game is to acquire a pet. Pets are hatched from eggs using an incubator. Different eggs can be found throughout the world, each giving players a unique and adorable pet. These pets do more than offer companionship though, they can seriously change gameplay.
8 Jr. Lava Slime
This little guy gets 8th place, but not for a lack of trying. This pet is actually super useful, it just so happens that some of the other pets can do what it can but a bit better. Having a Lava Slime pet will give players the following buffs:
- +2 glow
- +15 damage to bosses
This pet also does 11-13 points of melee damage, which is pretty average for melee attacking pets. Having a Lava Slime as a pet will be a great choice for players looking to defeat a boss in a poorly lit environment.
7 Jr. Blue Slime
While some of the slime pets in Core Keeper can be some of the best in the game, this one simply doesn't compare to the other pets players can hatch. That doesn't mean the little guy doesn't have its uses! Having a Blue Slime as a pet will grant players the following buffs:
- +13% chance to apply the slippery effect on foes
- +15% damage to bosses

Having this guy accompany the party during a boss fight may give players a tactical advantage, especially if the boss is one that moves around a lot. The conditionality of this one is pretty much the only reason it sits so low on the list.
6 Embertail
This is the point in the list where players may find that some pets are better than others based purely on playstyle. Embertail is a great pet and will be a wonderful addition to any player's experience as they explore the underground. Having Embertail as a pet will give the player the following buffs:
- +2 glow
- +16 burn damage applied on hits
This little guy is a ranged attacker, so does a little less damage than the melee pets available in Core Keeper. The range damage average is 9-11, which is a small price to pay to keep a beloved pet out of the fight. The design of this pet is also super adorable, winning over the hearts of players everywhere.
5 Jr. Orange Slime
This guy is a super useful pet to have around, especially for players that like to debuff their enemies in order to gain the upper hand in a fight. Players who choose an Orange Slime as their pet will experience the following buffs:
- Targets movement speed is reduced by -23.5% for 4 seconds
- +15% damage against bosses
